There's a new artist on the block and her name is Emilie Otto. We asked her a few of our burning questions so you can get to know her better.
Tell us a bit about you and your background.
I am born and bred in the Perth hills and for as long as I can remember I have always been drawing and painting.
I studied art at school and design at university, which in hindsight was a horrible idea! For me, it sucked all my creative joy away, which resulted in a 4-year hiatus after I graduated. A few years ago, I rekindled my love of Art and haven’t looked back since. Starting with what I knew and more recently discovering digital illustration. Which is an awesome art form where I utilise both my traditional art and graphic design skill sets.
Where did you find your love of art?
Not entirely sure, but my money's on Art Attack.
Who/what has inspired your artistic style?
In the early days, pop-artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein were huge influences. These days fashion, colour and anything retro are ever present influences in my art.
How do you work? Do you have a routine that you follow?I take time to illustrate, wind down and relax. Digital Illustration is my main creative outlet, however, there is no medium I won’t try. I love watercolours, charcoal, coloured pencils and have recently discovered clay
There are a few pieces that have sentimental meaning to me. Like the first painting I did after not doing anything for years and the first piece of digital art I did. Although they might not be my best work they represent milestones I am proud of.
What do you enjoy the most about being a creative?
Letting my freak flag fly!
